This page contains Sonny's road to recovery from the day we rescued him, until he found his forever home. April 25th, 2003 - June 13, 2004
"Sonny" came to us April 25th, 2003. Judging by his teeth, we estimate that Sonny was a 7yr old.
Sonny was a sweetheart. He seemed to know that he was coming home with us, when we went to pick him up, because he came to the gate and whinnied a greeting. We fed him 3 times a day, de-wormed him, and trimmed his feet. Sonny had been vaccinated, including WNV. When he came to us, not only was he malnurished, but his hair was coming out in clumps and his feet were like pancakes. He was literally walking on his heel! After a day, he looked much happier and took to his new home nicely.
Sonny was a crypt orchid and was gelded, once he could stand up to the surgical procedure.
Sonny: April 25, 2003 First day with us.
Another shot of Sonny. Note: There is a shadow across his neck from the shed's overhang.
The following is from his original web page.
Sonny is saddled up in the round pen, just to get an idea of what he knows.
Sonny: May 6, 2003 UPDATED Pics
You can see that Sonny has gained some weight back but he still has a long road ahead of him. Sonny is being worked at 20 minute intervals (lunging at a trot - both directions), every other day, to build up the muscle that he lost.
Sonny: June 23, 2003
In the collage, you can see Sonny from when he came to us, the one dated 4/25/03 and on the next picture is the same shot of his hindquarters, taken 5/12/03. It shows the development of the muscles and the progress that Sonny is making!!
He looks WONDERFUL!! =)
UPDATE: April 27, 2004
Due to unforseen circumstances, Sonny is back with us at the ranch. Here are some up-to-date pictures of Sonny:
After Sonny's experiences with another home, we brought him back to the Ranch and started working on him again. Just to polish the edges that got tarnished. Sonny was ridden by us and by young kids and enjoyed every minute of the loving attention. He was always the focus of the kids because of his lap-dog pet me temperment. After the tuning, Sonny got to enjoy the rigors of being with Ti and "her" babies. This just basically means that he didn't have to do anything but eat and be happy!
Sonny has found a new home! Thank you Michelle and her mom, Andrea!
